"aut neca aut necatus eris"

Dear blog,

Murder or be murdered. That is the title for today's post.
I'm kind of a mess. I think I need to take some time to reintroduce myself to myself. I just finished being somebody's lover and that didn't really work out. And now I'm running off to be somebody's lover. Seems to me I need to take a little breather. This person is playing me. I know it all along. Everyone is replaceable. How could you do this to me? All I've ever wanted is for us to be great and be a part of something special. I guess everything in this world is worth trying and even I couldn't stand a chance to be worthy to all the things. But that's okay, I learn from my experience.

Things happen for a reason. What most important thing now is I need to focus on my final semester and do the best for myself. I have come all the way long from the beginning I try so hard to find myself and the true meaning of life. Now that I have come to my senses and I've gone through some sort of transition state in life and am about to complete it. Hope to see nice things in future as well as meeting a lot more good people who will bring the best in me.

Salam Ramadhan Al Mubarak...

Some valuable reflection

Dear blog,

I have gone through two phases of practicums and now I am about to finish my third phase of practicum session. My first practicum was at SK Raja Di Hilir Ekram while my second practicum was at SK Tanah Hitam, Ipoh. My third practicum school is at SK Tun Dr Ismail, which is located in Padang Rengas. Teaching experience differs every time I enter the class. I have gained many experiences especially in teaching and learning of English language. The time that was spent with the pupils was more than inspiring but truly wonderful.  My cooperative teachers did more than enlighten me on the important roles of becoming a good English language teacher; they opened up a whole new perspective on the many rewards and experiences that teaching children can have on me and how I can affect them during some of the most important years of their lives.

Reminisce the memory of teaching and producing...

This 'Read Me' box is for the collections of pupils' work
such as books, journals, scrapbooks and the like.

I paste it in front of the class to ease the pupils and teacher to have a look.

Although I got the chance to teach pupils of year 2 again for my third practicum, the feelings and experiences are different. I did not expect to gain as much experiences or inspiration in this teaching field during the practicum periods.  During the practicum periods, I was able to see how the pupils respond towards me as a teacher. With 35 pupils to 21 pupils in the class, I was able to spend more quality time with each and every one of them, and getting to know each of their unique personalities.

'The Party Boy' is a simple story book I made to encourage pupils to write and produce creative art work. Learning to write a story book and instill awareness of loving arts and literature..

See how committed they are with their works
and thru such activity, they learn to work as a group..

During the practicum sessions, and some other hours of active involvement with the primary school pupils, I had the chance spending teaching other classes during the relief hours. The pupils were more than eager to learn and cooperative as well. Throughout the lessons that I have been teaching for the past practicums, I feel very much happy as I learn so many things especially to experiment with all the techniques and approaches in teaching. My cooperative teacher enjoyed my lesson as well and provided me with more than enough positive feedbacks.

The most memorable part of this teaching experience was my language arts classes. I was surprised by how well the lessons went and again, I had a great bunch of pupils who did a great job, listened well, and commented on how much fun they had in the end. I feel that it is important that pupils not only learn through fun activities, but they managed to understand the language inputs that were being taught. It is also important that we set our goals as teachers to get students physically active and the more ways we find to make physical activities motivating and fun, the greater chance we have at reaching that goal.  This course practicum did what it is supposed to do, by providing me with a great positive learning experience and chance to see how rewarding a students’ achievement and happiness can do for me as a future educator.

ENGLISH CAMP, WHIZ KIDZ! 2015

Dear blog,

Around 135 students had the opportunity to attend a one day English camp held at SK Clifford, in Kuala Kangsar Perak on March 28, 2015. The English language camp was sponsored by Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Ipoh and the camp was made possible due to support from SK Clifford, Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Kuala Kangsar (PPD) as well as other schools in Kuala Kangsar. The goals of the camp were to attract the students to learn English language, to enable to students to participate in language activities which also provide leadership training for students.  They get the chance to learn how to lead a team. They learn organisational skills such as planning and problem solving, all of which the classroom situation may be unable to provide. Additionally, the camp was aimed to promote a meaningful interaction and provide platform for students to use English language in communication effectively.

The camp’s activities were varied throughout the one whole day with check points stations, action songs competition, gallery walk, telematch, and amazing race. Fun icebreaking session with creative English language building challenge which one of it was creating group cheers. The amazing race was fun as the students enjoyed the tasks and tricky clues which kept them stimulated until the end of the game.  Other check points stations which encompassed with interesting activities such as ‘broken-telephone’, ‘junior master-chef’, ‘spell it right challenge’, ‘talentime’, ‘puppet show’ and many others. Camp participants included 135 students, ages ranging from 11-12 years old, from 19 primary schools around the Kuala Kangsar district. The English camp committee members enjoyed tremendous support among the school teachers and has attracted many students to join. Apart from that, the camp also was giving out prizes for all the participants. Many teachers and lecturers from IPG Kampus Ipoh came to support the program that day. Each participant was given two certificates of appreciation from IPG Kampus Ipoh and PPD for their participation.

Based on the positive feedback from participants and the begging and pleading for more time at camp, the president of the language camp concluded that their goals were successfully met.   A big thank to the program adviser Puan Lizarose Abdullah for her dedication and for all the trainee teachers as well as the school teachers for their hard work and dedication towards the achievement of the English camp. It is hope that more English camp like this to be held and more students to join it for an exciting time next year.

Kinda Worried Actually.....

Dear blog,

Am just being the type of student who I always been. Always in busy and stress moment. When talking about my academic behaviour, I always try to strive for the best and work best with fussy and committed friends and lecturers. Though my works seem not to be the very best, I always try to be perfect and work hard for everything I do.

Its all part of learning.! People sometime find it difficult to work with me as I have my own expectations and standard. But please don't stress the hell out of me.! Im just being me and sometimes I find it hard to nail at my work frame..

I always look up to those who work hard and the egoistic type of working machine, Like what people say, if you don't have a clean coin then don't even think of cheering yourself a can of soda!

Talk again soon....

Toodles!

Has it really been that long?

Dear blog,

Holy Wow!  I just looked at the date of my last post and cannot believe it has been that long.  I have officially been a blog slacker.  No reason in particular except that I haven't been able to come up with anything exciting to write about.  I haven't been on any adventures in months.

I guess you could say other things have gotten in the way of life. Even I did not update anything yet so far in this blog, but I keep my facebook update from time to time. I had taken quite a number of pictures but I'm lazy to share any in here.

Now I'm in my practicum period for three months at SK Tun Dr Ismail, Padang Rengas. My partner and I just got moved into the house about 3 weeks ago.  Work is good... I LOVE my job!  School is keeping me really busy.  I was very happy about my last semester grades even though I didn't get included on the deans list.  This semester, however, is a different story. I really hope that I will survive the three months practicum and plus, I need to submit my proposal after the mid term break. I am working hard and hoping I can improve on my teaching skills. Besides, I need to improve on my study skills that before the end of the semester, which leaves me about few more weeks to prepare for exams.

I enjoy living in the new small town, and like that my drive to work is now less than 3 minutes instead of an hour.  However, I miss my sister and family. I am just glad that I didn't move so far away that it would be hard to see them on a regular basis.

I need to get back to my works now, but promise I will be back a lot sooner.

throwing tantrums

Dear blog,

I've been quite moody lately. Getting irritated and bothered by silly little issues that I can't change or have no business being mad about.

It's stupid really. I always have to keep reminding myself that, yes, I CAN'T change it and it's NOT my business. oh, me..

I am not looking forward for tomorrow. I have to wake up the usual early time at 6:45am for class. oh my gosh, it's going to be one long tiring day..

My sweet cherry break!

Dear blog,

After spending quite sometimes in school, its time for me to spend my day with some friends and eat some good food. I feel I've got a real nice grasp of the Japanese food, after constantly going to same sushi restaurant. Hanging out with great friends and eating healthy Japanese foods was also the cherry on top!

Life's been crazy here in Ipoh. I guess I didn't realize how fast paced the lifestyle was here. Especially being a trainee teacher, the school does get to me. Coming to Ipoh to study and working and living here and two totally different things! It really can get stressful, which gave me some health problems... but not dwelling on that, I still am loving my life here so much! I'm always still exploring and seeing new things and making new friends! Also, I recently found love, so I've been on cloud nine these past weeks. hehe..

Take care and I hope all is well with everyone!!

Week II of practicum

Dear blog,

The second week ended very fast. Now, after two weeks, I was quite comfortable with the school environment. I could feel that I could work smoothly and my relationship with the pupils was starting to establish. However, my confidence in teaching still not satisfied me. I could feel that I lost in developing my lesson. I do not know why I feel like I never learn anything in the college.

My big concern was to my year 2 pupils. I am sorry for them for not being a good teacher and I was not creative as my other two partners. I saw them bringing their big teaching aids every day for their pupils. I guess, I need to learn from them. Furthermore, this week I gained a new experience. That is how to manage 440 pupils during the ‘Sambutan Ambang Hari Raya’ event. I was selected to become the Emcee for the program. So I was honored to do so. Even though I had the experience becoming the emcee before in college, I felt so much different when handling the event.

This week also was my first observation by my supervising lecturer. He really helped in improving my teaching because he pointed out my strengths and weaknesses. I have to be open-minded and receive his comment positively. I hope, I can learn more while I am in this school. On top of that, I also hope I can get a better idea on how to improve my teaching and I hope I can be strong enough to face the upcoming weeks in the practicum period.

During this week also I encountered some problems especially in my teaching lesson. I have figured out some of the solutions to the problems and I hope I can address the problems as soon as possible. This is important as it will help me to get a smooth and effective teaching and learning process.

My first week of practicum II

Dear blog,

This first week was quite okay as the teaching and learning went on as usual. After a week in this school I never thought it will be as this tough and tiring. It is like 180 degree of turning from my college life. The very first time in this school, I was so pleased that the headmaster and other staffs are being very good towards us.

Besides, my first day at the school started with assembly. We were being introduced to the school community by the PK HEM. The theme for that week is ‘Discipline week’. Moreover, the way they lined-up during the assembly was also a new experience for me. My first experience walking into class is when I have to replace my mentor’s class.

I was quite blurr on the first day because I really did not know what I should do. However, I applied my experiences during the first practicum to control the classroom. Firstly, I did the ice breaking activity with year 2 Bestari. I introduced myself and get to know each other. It took me 15 minutes to do the ice breaking session with the pupils. After that I carried on the lesson where the teacher had stop. Through ice breaking session, I realized that the pupils’ language proficiency is fairly good although there are some of them are weak. Hence, I started to plan in my mind what kind of activity that I can use to cater with their level of language proficiency.

I realized that this would be a challenge for me to teach because I need to use many teaching aids to aid them to understand my lesson. The next day, I introduced a few class rules to them. One of my rule is they need to listen to teachers in the class. As soon as I imposed the rules and regulations in the class, I find that they are hard to follow the rules because some of the rules were not being practice since the beginning of the school.

On top of that, the very first week, my friends and I were given schedule during our time here. I was quite excited and happy to get the time table. Besides that, I got the chance to be in the meeting with other senior teachers and feel like I am being part of the school. I hope that the upcoming weeks will be good one to me.

Practicum II

Dear blog,

I haven't posted anything since I left this blog and it made my hands numb from the lack of use.

Seriously, I have been neglecting this blog for quite a long time. I feel sorry about it. There were so many things going on in my life but I couldn't write every single thing here. Am so lazy to transfer all the pictures and write anything about them. Anyways, today I just want to share my thoughts about my practicum II for this semester.

Practicum is one of the components in the professional practice for the Program Ijazah Sarjana Muda Perguruan (PISMP)’s trainee teachers. This practicum should be the medium for the trainee teachers to gain more understanding and prepare themselves in become a real teacher.

I have always known that I wanted to work in education line. The idea of having a job that would develop over the years, allowing for progression and expansion really excites me. I am always willing to listen to new ideas and welcome a challenge. Having my own class, getting to know each student as an individual and witnessing them advance through their primary education, I believe, teaching would undoubtedly be a worthwhile career.

Furthermore, pursuing my study at IPG Ipoh helped me to have better understand of the true colours of teaching profession. I learnt lots of theories in education, I also learnt teaching and learning styles, preparing lesson plan, did microteachings.

We were given a briefing on the documents that we need during practicum and what is our focus during the practicum. After listened to the briefing, there were several questions linger in my mind. How about the school, the teachers and the pupils in the school? What should I teach, how to teach English to the pupils if their language proficiency were very weak? How I want to let them understand my instruction in English. However, I keep remind myself to be positive and do not put any expectation on that school.

I have to go there with an open heart and mind to learn and gain as much experience that I could. Nevertheless, I feel quite ready to face the second practicum because I am able to picture the true situation during the practicum based on my previous practicum.

My partners and I have visited the school, Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Hitam, Chemor, Ipoh. The school is stated not very far from our campus. It only takes 15 minutes to reach there. Thus we decided to stay at the hostel for the two month. For this second practicum session, we are going to be observed on our major subject including listening and speaking, reading and writing skill as well as language art. As this will be our second practicum, so there will be so many things to prepare including lesson planning as well. It is going to be a busy practicum ever. A complete preparation should be done early.

However, all the knowledge and experiences I gained in IPG are only in theoretical aspect. Even I did microteachings; it is totally different with the real scenario that I need to face in future as an English teacher in primary school. I really hope that this two month of practicum will equipped me with every necessary skills needed by someone to be called certified trained teacher in the future.

I hope that this practicum will be a platform for me to gain more knowledge and experience. I believe that this is a learning process for me to become a good teacher. Hopefully, this practicum will be the most meaningful one.

Talk again sooner.

Borneo Hornbil Festival 2014

Dear blog,

Recently I've participated in a dance competition together with other Langkau Budaya group members.
It was an unforgettable experience where I had the chance to dance other culture's dance and get to meet some new friends from Borneo especially.

This just make me so happy that we can do such great things with, and for each other still. Such a great reminder that our country celebrates with positive action in their own cultural uniqueness.

I also had the privilege of knowing the wonderful culture of Iban and other ethnics in Borneo. I just love the mood and feeling it encompasses, so I thought it would be interesting to learn the dances and a little more about the mind behind its beauty.
